Isom Global Strategies (IGS) received top honors at the 47th Annual Thoth Awards Gala for its efforts supporting the 2014 Marine Week Seattle outreach event, conducted on behalf of the United States Marine Corps. The competition is hosted annually by the PRSA National Capital Chapter (NCC), the largest chapter in the U.S.
IGS received the Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) Thoth Award in the Community Relations subcategory — one of 35 subcategories within 35 overall categories.
IGS leadership represented the company at the annual event, held September 16 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
“We are thrilled to receive the National Capital Chapter’s top honor,” Towan Isom, president and CEO of IGS, said. “The talent and innovation coming out of PR firms in Washington, D.C. is unrivaled. To be recognized among such a brilliant pool of communicators is an honor.”
The Marine Corps retained IGS to plan and execute Marine Week in 2013 and 2014 in an effort to increase awareness and knowledge of the Marine Corps in selected regions. Although the 2013 event was cancelled due to sequestration, 2014 Marine Week made up for it in scope and impact.
Through an integrated communications approach, including research, strategy development, media relations, community relations, strong partnerships and engagements with local government leaders, sports teams, and community-based and non-government organizations, the Seattle-based event positively influenced perception of the Marine Corps in the Pacific Northwest, validating existence of the week-long program and winning approval for its continuation in subsequent years.
“Despite being headquartered in D.C., planning a West-Coast-based event was nearly flawless,” Ashley Siegle, account supervisor and member of the 2014 Marine Week Seattle planning team, said. “We had a great team representing all parts of the country, and the outcome was incredible. It shows that change can be created anywhere by anyone, even if you are a small business based on the opposite coast.”
In June, PRSA awarded IGS the Award of Excellence for the same work at the Silver Anvil Awards Ceremony in New York City.
Named for the Egyptian god of communication, the Thoth (pronounced “tot”) Awards recognize the most outstanding, strategic public relations programs developed in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Achievements are recognized in 35 categories, including 17 program categories that celebrate the very best PR campaigns and 18 component categories that highlight top accomplishments in tactics.
