Isom Global Strategies (IGS) was recognized at the 2015 Silver Anvil Awards Ceremony for its efforts supporting the 2014 Marine Week Seattle outreach event, conducted on behalf of the United States Marine Corps.
IGS received the PRSA Award of Excellence in the Community Relations, Government subcategory – one of 60 subcategories within 16 overall categories. This year, PRSA received an astounding 800 entries from 136 competing agencies.
IGS leadership represented the company at the annual event, held at the AXA Equitable Center in New York City on June 4.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by PRSA as a top performer in the industry, especially as a small business,” says Towan Isom, president and CEO of IGS. “We work extremely hard to stand out among large agencies. The Award of Excellence is truly a symbol of our hard work and success. Size is not an indicator of capability.”
The Marine Corps retained IGS to plan and execute the 2013 and 2014 Marine Weeks in an effort to increase awareness and knowledge of the Marine Corps in selected regions. Although the 2013 Marine Week was cancelled due to sequestration, the 2014 event made up for it in scope and impact.
“Marine Week Seattle was an amazing event, and one that positively impacted thousands of residents and visitors to the Emerald City and its surrounding areas,” says Ashley Siegle, Account Supervisor and member of the 2014 Marine Corps Seattle planning team. “This was a challenging audience that carried steadfast perceptions of the Corps. Through cultivated relationships and one-on-one engagements, we were able to positively influence the population with a better, more accurate perception of this branch of the military.”
Through an integrated communications approach, including research, strategy development, media relations, community relations, and strong partnerships and engagements with local government leaders, sports teams, and community-based and non-government organizations, the Seattle-based event positively influenced perception of the Marine Corps in the Pacific Northwest, validating existence of the week-long program and winning approval for its continuation in subsequent years.
The Silver Anvil Awards has recognized the work of public relations professionals for over 60 years. Entries are judged on their research, planning, execution and evaluation, and factors such as creativity, ethics and budget are also considered.
