Isom Global Strategies (IGS) has been chosen as a finalist for the prestigious Silver Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) for efforts surrounding the 2014 Marine Week Seattle initiative on behalf of the U.S. Marine Corps. The Silver Anvil recognizes outstanding achievement in strategic public relations planning and implementation. This year, over 800 entries were received, with only 136 organizations selected as finalists.
“We pride ourselves on providing our clients with impactful communication expertise that delivers upon their communication and agency goals,” says Towan Isom, president and CEO of IGS. “In a time when public perception and an understanding of our military’s capabilities are paramount, IGS was able to increase public perception of the Marine Corps and an understanding of its role in national defense. Our core values are innovation, service and excellence. Even amid the current fiscal austerity and uncertainty, we were able to make a real impact with our work.”
Marine Week, the Marine Corps’ largest community relations event, is a finalist in the Community Relations–Government subcategory of the Silver Anvil competition. The Marine Corps retained IGS to plan and execute 2014 Marine Week Seattle in an effort to increase awareness and knowledge of the Marine Corps throughout that region. Through an integrated communications approach, including research, strategy development, media relations, community relations events and a strong partnership and engagement with local government leaders, sports teams and community-based and non-government organizations, the event positively influenced perception of the Marine Corps, validated existence of the program and won approval for its continuation for the next five years.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by the Public Relations Society of America as a top performer in the industry,” Isom states. “As a small business, we work hard to stand out among large agencies. We want to take that Silver Anvil home.”
The PRSA Awards Ceremony will be held In New York City on June 4, 2015. At the ceremony one Silver Anvil will be awarded in each subcategory. Up to two other entries in each subcategory may be awarded a Silver Anvil Award of Excellence. There are 16 categories and more than 60 sub-categories. PRSA does not identify specifically the names or number of agencies competing in the same categories.
The Silver Anvil has a 60-plus-year history. Entries are judged on their research, planning, execution and evaluation, while also taking factors such as creativity, ethics and budget into consideration.
